5.1. Methodological overview

The learning process that is designed for this subject is based on the following:

The procedure is based on the continued work of the student for attending lectures, participating in classes and accomplishment of both individual and group activities that promote understanding and knowledge listed in paragraph 5.2.

It will be crucial in finding, obtaining and processing the main sources of geographic and tourist information, and the use of mapping and spatial analysis techniques to facilitate the location, classification, prioritisation, and ultimately the analysis and assessment of tourist territorial resources.

5.2. Learning tasks

The program that the student is offered to help them achieve the expected results will include the following activities:

Theoretical classes (30 hours) in which basic theoretical and practical aspects are necessary for an understanding of this matter shall apply to encourage active participation and independent work of students.

The theoretical program is divided into the following topics: 

  • Topic 1 Conceptual introduction to the analysis of tourist territorial resources and the landscape as an integral element.
  • Topic 2 Classification and types of tourist territorial resources.
  • Topic 3 Geographical factors, development models and territorial impacts associated with tourist territorial resources of Spain:

- Coastal areas and coastal and island destinations
- Natural and mountain areas
- Rural inland areas
- Urban areas and historical cities

  • Topic 4 Techniques and sources for inventorying and evaluation in the analysis of tourist territorial resources. (Tangential study Topic)

Practical classes (30 hours): The lectures are interspersed with practical work based on the processing and analysis of sources of geographic and tourist information, case studies and management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and cartographic viewers among other classroom aspects.

Scheduled tutorials (6 hours): Allow the teacher to continuously monitor student work. Moreover, it will allow the student to answer questions or present their progress in this area. These tutorials will be established in the schedule, which is indicated at the beginning of the course.

5.4. Course planning and calendar

Theoretical and practical calendar program and classroom activities

  • Item 1 - 1st and 2nd weeks of lessons.
  • Item 2 - 3rd and 5th week of lessons.
  • Item 3 - 5th and 12th week of lessons.
  • Item 4 - 12th and 13th week of lessons.

The program is indicative and may be modified. In any case scheduling of classroom activities, students will communicate on the Moodle platform.

Students benefiting from the system of continuous assessment will be tested for theoretical and practical assessment at the end of item 2 and item 4. Any activity, event or test is conveniently notified via the Moodle platform.

Non-contact activities program calendar

The practical work of the course will be explained in detail at the beginning of it, so that the student can investigate the matter and shape the knowledge and skills acquired accordingly.
